Giancarlo Dell´Antonia

GIANCARLO DELL´ANTONIA was born in Lorenzago di Cadore in 1956 and he moved to Vittorio Veneto (TV) where now he lives and works. Besides the painting dimension, he also performs his creative research in working together on graphic offices and on advertising agencies as a visual designer. He cooperates as a teacher with the "I.A.L." of Pordenone where he teaches in classes related to digital image elaboration and to the computer graphic. Datum and comparison points in his work are the television media, so that at the beginning of the nineties he is more and more interested in the electronic media, understood and used as a pencil and/or paintbrush, so with a properly pictorial value.

The comparison with the opportunities offered by new technologies increases in the last years, so that he can develop a research in the digital representation area using photograph as support. He is the owner of the "Dell´Antonia Office" for the design of visual communication. Since 1985 he has taken part to lots of exhibitions, as Progetto Trax
(art network), On the razor´s edge at the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice, The Point at the Continua Gallery in San Gimignano (SI), Open Italy97 at the Trevi Flash Art Museum, Inhabitants at the Biagiotti Contemporary Art of Florence, VENEZ.A.RTE with the Loft Gallery of Valdagno.

LANDING ON FANTASIMILIA
by Sabrina Zannier

What does it mean to pass from the like-ly to the "fanta-like"? It will be incomplete an answer stressing the sliding from the true to the fantastic, therefore from the reality to the imagination, together with the idea of simile supporting the primary nature of the photograph. This incompleteness would carry on, moreover, a sort of paradox. As could we talk about likeness to the fantastic considering it as the infinite horizon of the human fantasy and imagination? In what would this simile consist and how could it be possible without a referent to look at? The concept of likely exists as it is based on the recognition of an object, a place, a landscape, a figure belonging to the external phenomenology, even ascribable to a model more than to a specific identity, personal, objective or territorial.

It can be likely the image of a cinema or television character, a public one; as well as the representation of a town square or of a natural landscape, belonging to a specific geographical location thanks to some details. In these cases we can talk about identity verisimilitude. An anonymous figure can be likely too, only because it can be recognizable as belonging to the human race; or a place, legible as it is, even if it can not be numbered as belonging to a specific place. These examples are proper to the concept of verisimilitude of models through which the phenomenology of the world can be read and recognized. With Giancarlo Dall´Antonia we can talk about "digital true" in a symbolic−emotional vein: in Dell´Antonia digital is made of vanishing atmospheres as it has be obtained thanks to imperceptible fogs of colour able to swallow monitor pixels.
