Maurizio Cosua

Maurizio Cosua was born in Ferrera, Italy but he lives and works Venice as a professor at the State Institute of Art. Professor Jerome Liss, M.D. says of Cosua, "When looking at the works of Maurizio Cosua, one feels like a speeding car on a superhighway that suddenly stops because the highway has become a dirt road and one must take off his shoes to walk upon it. In is the substance of Cosua´s work, with a hidden door to take us within ourselves. The quick flash of televised events that invades our lives suddenly disappears...we are in a world of ancient Indian tribes, guided by the natural paths of plant ferns and field furrows that lead to a central source: a leaf, stem, or hauntingly, a door. Cosua´s work begs the eye to linger, not focus, and let the earth absorb our attention as the earth absorbs water. Sometimes there is no focus, just a homogeneous substance, but with wonderful tones and shading. We are in the world of art to learn new things and yet today, the new lessons are of old perspectives. ´Jungian archetype´ is a synonym. Like the hunter who must discern a vague trail by night, we can only see Cosua if we relax our eyes, let go of all artificial perceptions, and look at the ground before us. In those special tableaus in which the ground leads us to a door, we may desire to enter it, to enter ourselves."
